ABOUT US
Department of Agricultural Economics, College of Agriculture, Bikaner established in the year 1995 after six
years of started of B.Sc. (Hons). Agriculture degree programme in the college. It was started with the
specific objectives of assessing technological impact, identifying best ways of marketing farm produce,
minimizing cost of production and optimum utilization of available farm resources. Presently, Department is
offering Post Graduate and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Agricultural Economics. There are four seats in
each degree progamme namely M.Sc. and Ph.D. including one seat from ICAR quota. The Department also
organized seminar, conference and training programmes for students and farmers.
VISION
To find out the solutions of farm based economic problems with economically viable and eco-friendly use of
available farm resources as well to generate human resource suitable for working in different organisations
working in the field of agricultural economics.
MISSION/THRUST AREAS
. To conduct survey based research activities for identifying major problems in betterment of farm
management.
. Analyse and forecast factors of price fluctuations and their impact on living standard of farmers
. Development of eco-friendly supply/value chain management systems for enhancing producer’s share in
consumer rupees.
. Development of worthiness of institutional credit in accessibility, utilization and creation of additional
income on farm enterprises.
. Changes in economic policies and its impact on stakeholders are ongoing process and students are encouraged
to work on latest changes through assignments, seminars and researches activities.
. Strengthening of lecture theatres for E-learning and development of skills on using statistical software in
analysis of economic studies.
. Development of agri-entrepreneurship skills in PG and Ph.D. students
. To identify the potential of agro-tourisms in Rajasthan.
Mandate
. To undertake teaching and research activities for Agricultural Economics. Making students learn the
problems and finding solutions through class learning and research problems
. To find out specific problems and provide economically viable solutions to emerging need based problems in
the field of agriculture and allied activites at micro and macro-economic levels.
. To teach and guide the students for getting job in research and higher education institutes
. To motivate the students to explore and understand the problems related to university jurisdiction upto
nation as a whole.
. Students are trained to become analytical and capable human resource to work in universities, research
organizations, consultancies and NABARD and higher positions in other banking institutions.
Major activities:
To impart theoretical as well as practical knowledge to students and stakeholders on changing climate
pattern, price fluctuation, production and marketing activities of farm produce.

There is only one Lab Assistant and one Assistant and 2 Lab Assistants are lacking as facilities of
Agricultural Economics are shared with courses of other departments also as mentioned in ICAR
recommendations.
