The Department of Entomology at the College of Agriculture, Bikaner came into existence since the
establishment of College in 1988. It was established with the specific objectives of developing skilled and
efficient human resource in the field of entomology and evolving strategies for management of pests of
various crops and developing location specific modules for management of insect pests in cereals, pulses,
vegetables, fruits, oilseeds and estimation of pesticide residues. Local isolates of various biocontrol
agents are being identified for their utilization as potential biocontrol agents to minimize pesticide
pressure. The department offers under graduate and post graduate programmes to generate quality human
resource. The Department has got one UG, PG laboratory and an Insect Museum which cater to the needs of
students for conducting practical and imparting identification skills for the respective programmes. The
M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes in the department started from 19….. and 200…., respectively. The Department also
undertakes extension activities in collaboration with the Agricultural Research Station, Krishi Vigyan
Kendra and imparts need based training to farmers and agricultural officers.

ascertain pollination requirements for enhancement of crop yields”.

Mission

We have sought to combine the best in basic and applied biology to meet the public need for research,
outreach, and instruction regarding entomology and related subjects, particularly as these bear on pest
management and on stewardship of the environment.

Mandate

• Imparting quality education and furthering the advancement of learning in frontier areas of Entomology and
related branches, for ushering in an era of total quality management.

• Sustainable improvement of agricultural production through development and popularization of location

Major activities of Department

•Providing quality education to ‘Undergraduate’ and ‘Postgraduate’ students.

• Evolving management strategies for major insect-pests of cereals, pulses, vegetable crops, and oilseeds
etc., and to conduct research on biological control and botanical pesticides.

• Processing and providing quality honey to the consumers.

• Collection and identification important insect pest of arid regions.

• Development of insect museum for enhancing the knowledge of students.

• Research on bio-efficacy of insecticides and botanicals

• Providing advisory services to farmers and entrepreneurs.

Any other relevant Information

The department is actively engaged in extension activities of Department oof Agriculture, Govt. of Rajasthan
and KVK Bikaner and Loonkaransar. It offers advice and consultancies in pest diagnostics, pest management
and participation in farmers’ fairs and field days organised in different crop of the area.
